I have to agree that there are alot of immature users on GW... however there are alot more mature players on it. They just don't stand out bc there not out talking in local chat about things no one wants to hear. Just advertise that you want to join a mature (if need be adult guild). And if your annoyed with immature users (and your not alone) turn off local chat when your in a town with immature players.

If you can't beat 'em, join 'em?

But what about the other old axiom.. that you should never "sink to someone elses level"?

I think monthly fees are definitely a deterrant (someone isn't going to pay 15.00 bucks a month to be a jerk 24/7 when they can do it for free on GW) - you still see the same immaturity on games like WoW and EQII, there's just slightly less of it.

I really hate to say it, but the local channels literally thrust me back to my Diablo II days as far as stupidity, ignorance, intolerance, and juvenile behavior goes. Every time I think I've seen the worst people can be, someone goes and stoops to an all-new low.

However there is a flipside to that coin. On GW I have met some of the coolest, nicest people, that I consider friends. Needless to say I enjoy playing with them greatly.

Immaturity is going to be found in any on-line game. It's not just GW or WoW that you'll find the juvenile twits who act & talk like idiots. You'll find them in FPS games, too. It seems to me that they tend to group together in GW, tho. I've found that they congregate in pre and post searing Ascalon City, the Random Arenas and the ABs.

It's annoying and all one can do is take a SS or 2 and report the worst of the behavior & then put the kiddies on Ignore for the time being.

first things first
Age doesn't equal maturity
some people think that unless you over 18/30 whatever you about as mature as 5 year old.
i have seen many older players behave very imaturely like a streotypical child.
then only adive i can give is for you to find a guild with an age limit that is into pvp, it is really just a case of trial and error tbh.
yes there are alot of jerks and 10 year olds out there who like to call you a noob (because you luxon/kurzick) and grind on you when your afk.
the only way is to perserve.
and like many others have said allready local chat equalls the gutter of Guild wars in pvp.
i keep it turned off most of the time unless i want to have a bit of laugh at someone else expense.

dont really see the point of this thread, of course there are immature people but since you dont have to deal with them and its only a game you can quite easily ignore them.
the majority of people or course are going to say 'yes most people are immature but im not' and to be honest if you would prefer nice people then pvp isnt for you, thats mostly egotistical elitists

I agree with the lack of mature players It's a real shame and makes getting into random parties or doing random arenas quit painful. With the insane amount of stupid comments and remarks people make is pathetic.
I'm just glad i was able to find a Great Guild to partake in
So don't lose hope! there are a few out there

I am not much of a PvP'er, but I know the feeling all too well. It is one of several reasons that I don't play much MMORPG's lately, including GW, as much as I used to, so I know how you guys feel. It doesn't matter which MMO you play in, whether it's GW, WoW, EQ, CoH/CoV, whatever; there will be a community full of immature players, some of them alot worse than others. In fact, I saw a few players in the RA's today that sounded so immature, or did immature things, that i was thinking, why do they even bother to play here?

I have to agree that the remarks some people make is appalling, and that, yes, there are plenty of people in Pre-Searing Ascalon that does nothing more than seek whatever they're trying to do that has absolutely nothing to do with what the game intended them to do. Yes, having Anet try to ban them is possible, but seeing how some players were "innocent bystanders" in them banning the latest batch of bots, it can be quite a task, and alot of online paperwork for the staff to hear players' griefs and appeals.

To me, it is very hard to tell the age range of people in the community because of the variants in maturity. Therefore, as others have pointed out, the best thing to do is to do your research and get acquainted with others in talk and in battling. See if they'll accept an older group that have all kinds of r/l things to do--work, family, friends, etc; then go from there.

I think the "mature" people here, are playing this game with all chats dissabled. You can join pugs, but must be extremely strong on your feet. Leave the party by first sign of jerkishness (This has the most effect when you're the only healer )

Ok, I am 11 years old, but don't just start assuming I am immature. I am top of my class in English and R.S and I learn to resist foul language and such. But on top of that I accept that some people are just naturally childish. Hey you never know, they may be dislecsec. Not all people are are perfect. Oh and please don't ask to put a monthly fee on this game. My parents have financial difficultys sending me to a private school.

Xorena,

Both guilds are very mature...(let me point out i don't mean old...we currently have members as young as 6...(my daughter)...and as old as 60 (our guild leader)..we dont tolerate hate chat, flaming, swearing or general rudeness. Everyone in the guild is quite freindly and helpful...my wife and I belong to the pve guild and i will join the pvp guild as soon as i can talk my wife into letting me buy another copy of G.W...lol...check them out and see if it's maybe something you would be interested in.

There are many immature people who play this game, but remember its rated Teen. The age group can be anything from -10 - 40+, so you can't expect everyone to be mature.

The EULA does actually forbid anyone under the age of 13 from playing. Not that that seems to do much good...

In that case the EULA is in error. The box states 12+, which means that people can play this at the age of 12.

Welcome to the PvP arenas. There are mature players there, but you'd not think so for all the immature ones spamming sh!t in the ALL channel. 3-4 immature asshats can completely clog up the ALL channel even if there's a hundred mature players, that's just a sad fact of life.

Free advice, take it for what it's worth... Saying that you're a husband & wife team is setting you up for abuse by the asshats; just say you're a team, or guildies. Also, I'm sorry to say that it's always a bad idea to let on that you're a real actual woman - that in itself is sufficient to cause mental meltdowns and soiled shorts for many of the people in the PvP arenas. This is not unique to guildwars, but goes for all on-line games.

First of all: this is the internet. dont expect mature people, since you are anonymous nearly everywhere, even someone thats over 30 years old can act like a complete idiot, because he cannot do that in real life! you will see this kind of behavior even here at the forums or at other forums. dont give away any kind of private informations, already such as you being married. people abuse such places for making people angry and being perverse. in real life, and you can be sure about that, alot of these people wont be like that, since they cannot be anonymous as easy as in the internet. rather feel pity for these fools, rather than getting too angry about it... the internet is just like that, it doesnt matter if its an internet chat or an online game...

Mind you that doesn't stop people who's mental age/maturity is at or below 12 being around. This forum's starting to show signs of that too unfortunately, but that's another topic for another day.

Short version: welcome to the internet, where anonymity reigns supreme and the worst in people comes out.

I agree though, do not give out your private details e.g. husband/wife or particularly that you're female - really, that's just asking for trouble. It shouldn't be that way but it is, so that's probably the best thing to do, outside of friends you've made via guild/friends list etc.

Sorry but I'm only acting mature in games with monthly fees and the ones that have ingame ways of reporting abuse. Acting mature is no fun and there's really no point to it. Have a nice day !
